Providing An Experience

Bread of Stone Live Experience.gif

I have friends in the music industry who have had multiple #1 singles on radio, but they could not afford their rent. So many bands have had to call it quits because they couldn’t make ends meet. This really breaks my heart.

Over my years in music, I’ve witnessed something disturbingly profound about music artists. As diverse as we are, many have a common misconception when it comes to live performance, something that has ultimately cost many their music career!

As artists, we need to change our approach to live performance and audience communication. Personally, I’ve found – as have countless other artists – that we pour so much of our attention and finances into the wrong places! In fact, the music industry, as a whole, lends itself to this mistake.

We are often distracted with writing, recording or promoting “The Next Big Song,” or with things like buying more gear and updating our wardrobe, etc. While there’s nothing wrong with those necessary elements, they can effectually derail us from a successful future because of their ability to dominate. In reality, those things are just a prelude to our music career, leading to our live show.

When it comes to performing, I see many talented artists who are so focused on playing songs to their audience, instead of providing an experience to share with their audience, an experience that you are responsible for creating!

Creating an experience is a process. It takes a lot thought, work and effort. And it’s sad that so many artists don’t make it a priority to work those experiences into their show. Their live performances are where they make most of their income and usually find most of their fulfillment, sharing their music with people from all walks of life!

I have friends in the music industry who have had multiple #1 singles on radio, but they could not afford their rent. So many bands have had to call it quits because they couldn’t make ends meet. This really breaks my heart. Artists could strengthen their careers and make a far GREATER impact from the stage and form a deeper connection with their audience if only they decide to work on and invest in their live show.
